Brewing Strong

A few weeks back, on a bright, sunny, crisp and cold Saturday Portland morning, I rode out to the Industrial Park for a brewday at Austin Street.

It was a day out of the ordinary for the crew over in the Park.  Will and Jake, the co-founders of Austin Street Brewery, were down in Florida for J. Wakefield’s Wakefest.  Dylan, the new-hire, was enjoying his day off, hanging over at Allagash for a Lil Sal release. I was the only dude at the place. Yet, I was so stoked to be there, to see these women brew a beer, all in the spirit of National Women’s Day on March 8th…

Led by Lisa, the head brewer at Austin Street, the crew of women from the front-of-house at Austin Street, and a few friends, brewed a coconut, black IPA. Everyone jumped into the brewday, from mashing in, to graining out… Plus a whole heap of coconut.

Inspiring, to say the least. Can’t wait to taste the beer this Thursday at the release party…

Go get ’em ladies…
